Amanda Brugel
(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in that part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island to the that lies west of Montreal however the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is commonly known as the place where she was born. However, she only resided there for a very short time. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa within Ontario. Her initial ambition was to pursue a career as an actress but after a sudden growth spurt her partners weren't able to dance along with her. In an interview with Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet and 1 inch." When I grew out of male companions at that point, I gave up. A lot of former dancers go on to acting, and in Brugel's case it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school who pushed her in the right direction. The teacher who suggested she go after a role in the annual school production. She was chosen to play the main role for Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2000. Since then, she's appeared performing in over 60 plays, large and small. The most notable was when she landed the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian on the Season 1 actors of the series as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
